There was a band concert at one of our high schools tonight and we were missing about half of our regular crowd as a result. So we decided (last week) to host a game night for whoever showed up. The plan was to build community through fun. And it worked pretty well.
Tonight we welcomed two new students who have never been involved with us before, and the girlfriend of one of our regular students. The new students fit right in and enjoyed the goofiness. We had Xbox games on the big screen, Wii games on the TV, board games (that no one ever opened up) and a large game of hide-and-seek in the dark that made me wish I had a camera with night vision capabilities. (Seriously, the amount of scaring and screaming going on – especially from the big tough guy – was doubling me up in laughter).
It’s good to take a break every now and then and have fun.
