Taking a Look Back Before We Move Forward
This week at one80 we kicked off the new school year of ministry by taking a look back at what God has done this summer. I invited students to share, and most who shared spoke about our summer trips to Chicago for SEMP and to Nicaragua with AIM. Then we looked at a rear-view mirror and 1 Samuel 7.7-14 (focusing on verse 12). I spoke briefly about how Samuel erected Ebeneezer to remind Israel of what God had done for them (and of course we closed our evening with the David Crowder*Band’s rendition of Come Thou Fount). I challenged our teens to remember what God has done for them this summer before diving into the new season, but not to get so caught up in the past that they miss what God has coming for them. We closed the evening by inviting teens to write two things on our newly painted chalkboard walls: thanking God for something that He did in/through/for them this summer, and asking God what He wants for them this year.
Tonight was a great evening of ministry. Students are stepping into more ownership roles (leading the challenge, running music, etc.) and they really are seeing a genuine need to share the Gospel this year. I am excited to see what God has in store for all of them.
