As Seen On: How I Met Your Mother (3.27.13)
Additional Resources Used: 2 video clips from How I Met Your Mother (4×06 – Happily Ever After). Kinect video arcade game.
Evening in a Sentence: This week we explored the idea of anger, and how God expects us to handle this emotion.
Element of Fun: Fellowship time over dinner, Free Throw Challenge on Kinect.
What Worked: This week we welcomed back a couple of students we have not seen in a while. We experimented with the layout of the first floor and seem to have come across a very equitable setup for our meal time. Our lesson time seemed to hit home with the students (it is a topic they all deal with on a daily basis), and they really did seem to engage. One even requested the suggested passage from Galatians that I gave out as an aside during the lesson. He also has been reaching out to some of our newer students the past few weeks and seemed to connect with them tonight. The clips from HIMYM really drove the point home for a lot of our group.
What Needs Work: Our music was rough again this week. There were a couple of points where students were more focused on their side conversations than the topic at hand (or the music they were being led in).
Summary: This was another good night. I am still praying earnestly that our current students would step up in boldness and take advantage of the atmosphere we are seeking to create on Wednesday nights. For years our church has been incredibly inward-focused, which has impacted how our students perceive church. We continue to work against this mindset, and though we have broken through at times (we have had a couple of students bring new friends), there is still much to be done to shift Wednesdays into more of an outreach night.
