HABIT #4: Involvement in the Church Body (1.9.13)
Additional Resources Used: None.
Evening in a Sentence: God desires to have us grow deeper in our relationship with Him, and we can only do that if we commit to spending time studying His word.
Element of Fun: Fellowship time over dinner. Dance Your Hat and Gloves Off – a challenge that features three teens attempting to “dance” a knit cap and dish washing gloves off of their head and hands in 15 seconds.
What Worked: We welcomed a new student this evening, and it seems as though she enjoyed herself immensely. She even joined right in when the middle school students were discussing a [LIFE Group] outing for this month. The lesson time was solid, with more discussion than I expected. The topic really seemed to hit home for a lot of the group. The table discussion setup with genders (and even ages) intermixed allowed for a lot of very good discussion. Our [LIFE Groups] were able to meet briefly to plan an outing for this month.
What Needs Work: Our music seemed a little lackluster from my vantage point, and our snack/meal time was less than I had hoped. The challenge did not seem to go over as well as I had thought it might.
Summary: As I said, tonight’s teaching was solid and left our group with a lot to think about, particularly their own involvement in our church body. We were also able to celebrate one of our leaders who is leaving for school at the end of the week. We had a couple of cards that students were able to write encouraging notes to him inside of, and even brought him to the front to celebrate him before he leaves. All in all, this was a good evening.
