Congratulations, Class of 2012!
Tonight was different from most in that we set aside this evening to honor our graduating seniors. We served a catered meal, spent time in worship together, invited underclassmen to share what the seniors meant to them, asked seniors to share advice with the underclassmen, and I offered a challenge to them to remain strong in their faith. (A very condensed version of my sermon from Sunday morning). It was a great evening, and we were able to see God’s spirit of love move in and through many of our teens and their families. I personally was able to interact with each family unit and got to converse more with some parents in one evening than I have been able to all year! Were there negatives? Yes. Three teens in particular chose to go outside and play basketball rather than serve and worship inside. And there were some glitches along the way that could be ironed out for next year. But all in all the evening was a success, giving our departing seniors one last hurrah (they will be permitted to hang out with us throughout the summer).
