Our Love of Money (one80 Tuesday)

This week began a new 2-part teaching series that will explore Money: how we get it, what we do with it, and what God has to say about it.

Set List: No One Like You, Hands and Feet, Forever Reign

Scripture Used: Ecclesiastes 5.10-12, Ecclesiastes 5.13-15, Matthew 6.19-21, 2 Corinthians 8.9, Malachi 3:10, Proverbs 3:9-10

Additional Resources Used: 30 Hour Famine video, one80 Link: April on the Road, Cedar Mania Memories

Evening in a Sentence: We have all of this money, so what does God have to say about our wealth?

Element of Fun: Who Wants to be a Fraction of a Millionaire? Just like the game show (Who Wants to be a Millionaire?), a contestant will answer trivia questions for money. The prize money starts at a quarter, and works up to $10.

What Worked: There was a lot that worked for us tonight. Our numbers were up from the previous week, and the group was excited tonight. There was a lot of engagement in the lesson time, in the game time, and even in our worship through music. There was even one teen who was verbally disappointed that we were starting the evening off with only one song… until he found out we would sing more later. Our [LIFE Groups] (at least the guys’ groups) were great tonight, with the Senior High guys getting deep into some good discussion about tithing more than just our money to God. After the evening was done, we even had some impromptu karaoke in the Sanctuary, with a small band of vocalists trying to sing some popular songs to our enthralled crowd. We also picked up one new student for the 30 Hour Famine, and 9 applications for CHICAGO 2012 came in (I did decide to extend the deadline to Friday and give a couple of teens one last chance to sign up).

What Needs Work: We were missing 3 of our four female leaders, and this was not the best night to be shorthanded in that department, as she had all 14 girls to herself for [LIFE Group] time. And the one that we did have tonight had provided the dinner, so she was struggling with being present in the group time and putting the food away.

Summary: This was a very encouraging night of ministry. There was a lot of fun within our evening, and our teens really seemed to enjoy being here this week. There was even some deep conversation that continued long after the lesson was done. Tonight was a very good evening.
